It sure has been a tough start to the year for us as a family, not only with my dads health but my partners father also being unwell
although that's not been my story to tell

Spring is definitely upon us as the weather warms up and all the plants are starting to grow, especially all the weeds on my allotment. I'm late starting this year with all the hospital trips but now I have the time once again I made a start on Friday by covering some of the beds in cardboard to hold back the weeds, whilst I start to turn over the others

My very untidy allotment as the grass needs cutting, showing several rows of wooden boxed plant beds. The first two rows of beds are covered in cardboard, the other rows are full

My fruit trees are now all showing signs of growth as their branches are in bud as the leaves start to reach for the warmth of the sunshine after a long wet and cold winter

Even Boris appeared shocked at the enormity of the task ahead of us when we first arrived on the allotment on Friday and seeing just how much needed doing

Whether we catch up or not on the growing side I have no idea, I'll have to cheat this year and see if I can find any seedlings at the garden centre to get a head start

I need to get the allotment dug over and looking ready to plant before the annual inspection, or there's a risk I may have to give up our little piece of paradise to the next person on the waiting list

Allotments are highly sought after in our area and a condition of having one is that they are being used as the waiting list is so long

Today is a day of rest for The Boys and I, but I hope whatever you're doing you're having a great Easter

Dawn, Boris and Eko xxx
