Today's the Day

Today is x-ray day for Boris to find out why he's no longer weight bearing on his left front leg after a second bout of non weight bearing lameness, you can read about the first time here

I have very mixed feelings about it, whilst we need to know what he's done to himself so that we can follow the best treatment path with adequate pain relief to make him more comfortable, there's that nagging worry about him having a sedation with his heart condition and what horrors the x-rays will show up

Boris is a lot more comfortable than he was a few days ago as he's on some pretty heavy duty painkillers at the moment, but that's just masking the problem in a bid to protect his other arthritic joints by reducing the amount of hopping around on three legs, it's not ideal in the long term without knowing exactly what's wrong

I trust our vet and know that all the staff will spoil Boris rotten with cuddles today, but it doesn't stop me worrying about what the x-rays will find

It looked like there might be a hairline fracture on Boris's x-rays, today, but with the amount of remodeled bone due to his arthritis it was hard to tell for sure, so the x-rays have been sent off to a specialist vet for review

A photograph of an x-ray of Boris's left elbow joint, the arthritis makes the joint look fuzzy making it hard to confirm if there's a fracture or not

Best case scenario is that it's just a really bad strain, worst case scenario is that his Fragmented Coronoid Process has reared its ugly head again and he's fractured his elbow

All fingers and paws crossed nothing untoward is found🀞

    1. We've since heard back from the specialist after he had a CT scan and a fractured elbow has been confirmed. For now he's being kept comfortable on painkillers until his surgery can go ahead, although he's not loving the restricted exercise as we all know how much joy he gets from free running xxx
